Marshall, Hart hatching 'Eggs' for big screen
The inimitable Garry Marshall, who pops up as a guest on Melissa Joan Hart's "Sabrina, the Teenage Witch' Nov. 15, is hatching big-screen plans with the actress.
If things go according to those plans, Garry will produce and his son Scott
will direct Melissa in "Drop Eggs,' the story of a young woman and an old man who help each other learn to live with the tragedies in their lives.
"It's a funny but kind of sad story,' says Marshall. "Melissa will play a
kind of crazy girl running from everything. She's kind of sexy in it, and it
will also be a good acting stretch for her.' He adds that they're still
putting the project together and that Melissa's mother will likely
co-produce.
As for why he decided to put on his acting hat to play a menacing restaurant owner in "Sabrina,' the "Pretty Woman' filmmaker says, "because my grandchild is going as Sabrina on Halloween and because Anson Williams (who played Potsie on Garry's vintage 'Happy Days' series) was directing. And also because I always try to pick up acting work when I'm getting ready to direct a film so I can be more sensitive as I remember how hard it is on the other side.'
Come January, Garry starts directing Kate Hudson in "Raising Helen,' a saga about a single career woman suddenly left with three children to raise.
After that, he'll start the sequel to "The Princess Diaries,' with, he says,
"The original cast -- Julie Andrews, Anne Hathaway -- and my granddaughters, who are 7 years old now.'
And after that, if things go as hoped, he'll have Melissa before the cameras
in "Drop Eggs.'
