Sabrina's boyfriend will be at mall Sunday

ONTARIO -- Some nonprofit groups hope area residents will have fun, do some shopping and meet a teenage witch's boyfriend Sunday.

David Lascher -- better known to "Sabrina, the Teenage Witch" fans as "Josh," Melissa Joan Hart's college love interest on the sitcom -- will be one of many attractions at Westfield Shoppingtown Richland during an evening of holiday shopping designed to benefit area charities.

Older fans might remember Lascher from his days as Vinnie Bonitardi on "Blossom." The 30-year-old actor from Los Angeles is laying low these days, searching for his next project. But he always makes time for charity work, one of the big perks of his job.

"I work for the Make a Wish Foundation and Camp Laurel," he said. Camp Laurel helps children living with HIV, he said. He goes there a few times a year to sign autographs and visit the kids.

Amy Christus, marketing coordinator for Westfield Shoppingtown Richland, said Westfield Works Wonders will be held simultaneously at all Westfield Shoppingtowns across the country. The event is designed to raise money for charities while creating an enjoyable holiday shopping event. Retailers will have special offers valid only that night.

More than 20 area nonprofit groups, including the United Way and American Cancer Society, have sold $5 tickets to the event, with all proceeds going to their coffers. Each ticket entitles customers to an evening of exclusive early holiday shopping and entertainment, including NASCAR racing simulations, a meet-and-greet with Miss Ohio, a United Way auction and karaoke.

For those who don't get a ticket beforehand, don't worry. Representatives of the groups who sold the most advance tickets will be at mall entrances selling tickets to the 6 to 9 p.m. event. For information, contact customer service at (419) 529-4003.

Lascher will be on hand from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., signing autographs and having pictures taken with his fans. A native New Yorker, Lascher often travels across the country, but has never before visited Ohio.

He just finished his third and final season on "Sabrina, the Teenage Witch." Now, he is spending time writing, with a possibility of one day directing. He also is reading scripts for television and movie roles.

"I am looking for roles that are a little more mature," he said. "I want a television movie or feature film that is different than what I've done before."

His fans probably loved straight-laced college student Josh, but Lascher's favorite role was in a "A Call to Remember." The made-for-cable movie co-starred Joe Montegna and Blythe Danner and told of the struggles of a Jewish family that survived the Holocaust.

For now, he'll take a break Sunday in Ontario.

"It should be fun," he said. "I'm excited to meet the Sabrina fans in the area."
