LOS ANGELES, Sep 12, 2002 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ --
The 2nd annual "4 Paws For A Cure" two-mile dogwalk benefiting the National Childhood Cancer Foundation will be held on Saturday, September 28 beginning at 9 a.m. at the Temescal Canyon Park in the Pacific Palisades (Pacific Coast Highway and Temescal Canyon Boulevard). The event is sponsored by Nutro Pet Foods, Wells Fargo, Petco, Big Dogs, and Star 98.7FM.

Backed by pledges, people and their pooches will raise funds for the National Childhood Cancer Foundation, a non-profit organization based in Arcadia, California dedicated to eradication of childhood cancer through the support of research, public education and advocacy. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Much Love Animal Rescue, a Southern California based non-profit organization placing orphaned and abandoned animals in loving homes.

Honorary Chair of "4 Paws For A Cure" is Melissa Joan Hart, star of the WB's "Sabrina, the Teenage Witch." Other members of the honorary committee include Soleil Moon Frye, also of "Sabrina, the Teenage Witch;" Tom Cavanagh, star of NBC's "ED;" Joely Fisher, star of CBS' "Baby Bob;" and Kevin Eubanks, leader of "The Tonight Show" band. Cancer survivor Briten Douglas, a 15-year- old budding actress, will be a special guest at the event. She is bringing along Haas, her German Shepherd, who inspired her during her leukemia treatments when she was only four years old.

At the event there will be a dog-owner "look-a-like" contest, and the canine collecting the most in sponsorship donations will win a trip for his or her human to Las Vegas, including three days and two nights in a deluxe suite at The Palms Casino Resort, airfare included. Humans who raise $150 or more will receive a free t-shirt. Canines will receive a complimentary souvenir bandana in red, white and blue, depending on the total amount of donations collected.

To leash up a pup and be part of this event (walkers without dogs are also
invited to participate) call (800) 458-6223, or visit the "4 Paws For A Cure" website at www.pawswalk.org . Registration fee is $20 ($25 on the day of the event).

For further information please contact Meredith Brucker, +1-800-458-6223, ext. 198, for National Childhood Cancer Foundation.

New rule: polls should only be posted if related to the subject in hand (unless in the Off-Topic Ordeals forum, although even then the poll should be related to the actual message).

Oh, and before you say "but this is about dog walking and I posted a poll about dog paws", it's not really related. Rolling Eyes

Regarding the 4 Paws event, I would ask that everyone at least consider making a small donation to the charity and putting in a good word for Melissa at the same time. I'm going to. Imagine if every fan who loves Mel did that. It's just a thought. I'm bad at this and I'm not trying to pressure anybody. It can't hurt, and I think it would only reflect well on Mel. Thanks, guys.
